Membership in Opus Est is limited to authors with a completed mainstream commercial or literary novel of at least 60,000 words.

Writers meeting the above requirements are invited to apply.

Applicants are selected based on their stated goals and the competency of their writing. Opus Est selects published and unpublished writers who have written original novels and would like feedback from other writers at a similar level of proficiency.

Selection Process

Applications are reviewed by a first reader, and those passing review are reviewed by the membership. ALL APPLICATIONS ARE REVIEWED BLIND. This means that your name will not be disclosed to the reviewers, in order to maintain an unbiased process.

Selected applicants will be invited to join Opus Est. Applicants not selected may reapply as often as they like. The writing sample in an application will not be commented upon, as we are unable to provide critiques to nonmembers.

Requirements for Members

Members of Opus Est get one critique of their manuscript for every manuscript they critique. This is why Opus Est must carefully select only the most promising writers. Members may critique other manuscripts at their own pace, "banking" the critiques they give, and then may cash in and receive several critiques on their work at once. Other members prefer to have their manuscript critiqued after every critique they give.

Members of Opus Est must commit to one year of membership, at whatever pace they choose.

Members of Opus Est agree to adhere to all community guidelines and critique rules.

Members of Opus Est must provide their manuscripts in a format compatible with MS Word 2000. This does not mean that the ms must be in MS Word 2000, but it has to be readable by that program.
